QUESTIONING SCIENCE:
VACCINES OR MOLECULAR THERAPY?
Last Saturday, the Faculty of Medicine, University of Mostar hosted an unforgettable symposium. We asked the scientific community a question: "Vaccination or smart therapy?", and received an answer from distinguished Croatian and international scientists professors Stipan Jonjić, Ivan Đikić, Ilija Brizic and Sanjin Musa.
Nectins, checkpoint therapy, proxidrugs, monoclonal antibodies in the fight against the pandemic virus, epidemiological aspects of infection... these are just some of the topics we touched on at our meeting. The whole story was completed by professor Jurica Arapović and doctor Borko Rajič, who spoke about the importance of preventing invasive bacterial diseases during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.
We hereby thank our lecturers, organizers - the Association of Infectious Diseases of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Institute of Public Health of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Federal Ministry of Education and Science of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the student section PHARMiON. Then we would like to thank the main sponsor of the event PFIZER, the Medical Chamber of Herzegovian-Neretvan County, and the sponsors Roche, Leda and Čitluk Winery for their support and donations.
Special thanks go to Mr. Senad Dorić, our student volunteers and all of you who participated in the symposium and made this day great.
See you next time!

Mini-symposium: "Scientific publishing: How to choose the ideal journal for your work?"
On April 24, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Mostar hosted a mini-symposium on the subject of scientific publishing. The symposium brought together certain lecturers prof. Dr. Semir Vranić from the University of Qatar and Dr. sc. Faruk Skenderija from Sarajevo, editor of the journal Biomolecules and Biomedicine. The lecturers tried to make the audience aware of the importance of choosing the right journal for the publication of work and the frequent pitfalls young researchers fall into, for which it is extremely important to know how to assess the impact, quality and reputation of the journal. The lecturers particularly emphasized the importance of recognizing predatory magazines and so-called misleading the scientific public, but also gave many other useful tips to young researchers on their way to success.
As part of this event, workshops were held for doctoral students and other students of biomedical studies on the topic of a historical overview of the development of vaccines and the importance of preventing infectious diseases, held by prof. Dr. Sanjin Musa, predictive biomarkers in immunotherapy - prof. Dr. Semir Vranić and the production and use of monoclonal antibodies in the treatment of malignant and infectious diseases by our third lecturer, Dr. sc. Faruk Skenderi.
The event was marked by the presentation of the course "Modern Vaccines in Medicine and Vaccination" led by Prof. Dr. Juric Arapović at the doctoral study "Biomedicine and Health" of the University of Mostar, and it is of particular importance and pleasure to us that this course was held at the very beginning of World Immunization Week, when one of the most effective public health measures, thanks to which millions of lives have been saved, is celebrated.
To all the attending PhD students, students, professors, researchers and scientific teaching staff, thank you for your participation and immense thanks to everyone who supported the event.

dubrOvnik summer school of patophysiology
August 16 - 27, 2022
Are we ever truly done with school? Personally, I think the answer is “no.” School can help young professionals enrich their careers with broader views and visions and spark their enthusiasm for topics that may not have been covered in depth during their training. My own learning inspiration comes from the integration of etiopathogenesis and the understanding of pathophysiology – a lasting fascination that motivated me to create the Dubrovnik Summer School of Pathophysiology.
